AISA Protested in front of UGC HQ Regarding the Discrepancies in the Ongoing UGC-NET Exams

The NTA has repeatedly failed at conducting national as well as state level examinations for UG, PG and research students. Their failures include delay in releasing exam schedules, admit cards and even in conducting examinations. With regard to the recent UGC-NET exam conducted by NTA, we would like to list the following concerns and our subsequent demands for improving the examination process:

  1. The NTA has been very irresponsible in releasing exam schedules on time and as a consequence the students have had to go through severe anxiety and unexpected financial burden. The recent NET exam is a very prompt example of the same. The admit cards and hall tickets  for all NET exams were released just 2-4 days prior to the exam. Several students have missed their examination due to this abrupt release of notifications. Students have had to avail last minute travel arrangements to the exam centers due to NTA’s inefficiency. It is our demand that the NTA must take responsibility for the same and re-conduct all those exams in all subjects  where students encountered technical glitches. Not only the students who were not able to give their exam due to gross system failure at their respective centres but all students must be allowed to give their exams once again at a later date with prior information.
  2. Students appearing for CUET exams scheduled from 15th July onwards have not been provided their admit cards yet. Examinations scheduled on such short notice put undue pressure on students who have to complete their final revisions. We request that the CUET exam should be postponed and should be held atleast 10 days after the release of admit cards. The notification for CUET-PG examination must also be released at the earliest giving sufficient time for students to prepare for the exam as well as plan their travel to the examination centres.
  3. The UGC-NET exam  that is taking place currently is the merged exam for two cycles (December ’21 and June ’22) and hence the number of seats for the same must be increased accordingly. The NET exam is supposed to provide maximum opportunities for higher education and the seat-cuts that are taking place without informing the students is in effect turning UGC-NET into an exam of exclusion.

In the meeting with and AISA Delhi Secretary Neha and AISA National VP Ranvijay and others, the said that exams will be conducted again only for those centers where glitches happened in August. This is an extremely faulty process as a level playing field won’t be ensures. The delegation also demanded that the NTA release the admit cards for the August phase prior to at least 10 days.

Along with this, the delegation raised the issue of admit card not been made available for CUET-UG exam, even though only 4 days are left for the exam.

The response of the UGC was irresponsible and disheartening.

In conclusion, the repeated instances of NTA’s ineptitude has resulted in students losing their trust in NTA. It is only natural that students who have suffered terribly at the hands of NTA’s inefficiency do not wish to have NTA conduct national level exams anymore. Therefore, we demand that the tender to conduct these exams be taken back from the NTA and that the Ministry of Education should once again take up this responsibility. We expect the UGC to safeguard the interests of students and pay heed to our above stated demands.
