Lies of the Modi-Shah Regime and Godi Media Versus the Truth
Here, we discuss some the false narratives that the corporate media of our times is creating in light of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and the National Register of Citizens and the mass protests that have erupted rejecting the communal basis of Indian citizenship.
At a time, when the entire country has erupted in protests to resist the communal Citizenship Amendment Bill, which makes religion as a basis for granting/snatching of Indian citizenship, the Modi-Shah duo has once again used the corporate media to propagate lies. Let us look into some of these lies.
- “The Act will not affect the Indian minorities“
Amit Shah and his pet anchors like Sudhir Chaudhary have tried to reiterate that the Act will not affect the Indian Muslims but the reality is different. The CAA-NRC-NPR is a total package. Under NPR-NRC, if someone fails to provide requisite documents, the person will be granted first a refugee status under the CAA, and subsequently through the cover of CAA will be given citizenship, provided the person is not a Muslim. By the way, even for non-Muslims, people declared non-citizens due to lack of specified documents, will still have to spend aundefined period in ‘detention camps’ as we are witnessing in Assam. If a Muslim fails to prove his or her documentary criteria for citizenship under NRC, there is no safety cover of CAA for them. Such Muslims will be thrown in detention centres. They will become stateless, without even basic human rights. At the base, this triple trick of CAA-NPR-NRC is an attack on the poor working class, who would not be able to furnish documents to prove their citizenship.But for the Muslim poor, even the refugee status granted by CAA is out of the window.
- “NPR and NRC are not linked.”
The BJP has said that the NPR is just an exercise prior to the 2021 Census and have denied its link to NRC. Zee News,on 24th December uploaded a report viewing NPR and NRC as very separate exercises. But Page 262 of the Annual Report 2018-19 of the Home Ministry, headed by Amit Shah, clearly states that “The National Population Register (NPR) is the first step towards the creation of the National Register of Indian Citizens (NRIC)”. The new Census includes a column of information about the birthplace of one’s parents and grandparents. This column did not exist in the 2010 Census, linking it to the nation-wide NRC this time. Also, on 26th November 2014, Kiren Rijiju of BJP remarked in the Rajya Sabha, “The NPR is a first step towards the creating of NRC”.
- “Students are destroying public property”.
Disregarding the integrity of his institution, Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat accused the leaders of the protests to be ‘misleading’ the students on 26th December. The newly appointed CJI, SA Bobde, on 16 December, commented, “if you want to take to street, then in that scenario, do not come to us…. if protests and violence and damage of public property will be there, we will not hear the matter “, when Supreme Court lawyer Indira Jaising appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo moto action against the police who attacked students in Jamia Milia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University, by entering the university premises. The Godi Media has created this narrative that the students are rioting in order to take away the real issues from the sight. At primetime, fake and unrelated clips of students, past social media posts etc are being shown on the TV screen to erase from minds of the people the reason we are fighting for. Contrary to their propaganda, the peaceful protests have seen ruthless repression from the police. Videos of UP Police vandalising homes and Delhi Police vandalizing and burning vehicles have surfaced, shedding the veil of lies that this government wears.

In 2019, when the students raise their voice against the New Education Policy and privatisation of education, the same corporate channels rig them of their essence, yelling slurs like ‘Jihadis!’ and ‘Anti-Nationals!’ at primetime. This has been the process of delegitimising dissent.
An important aspect of this controlled media that needs to be highlighted is the functioning of this media in a global system. The corporates, in the backdrop of globally crashing economy, divert their fundings to a conservative-fascist party. This funding is also diverted to the media channels, gaining direct control of content. The content, controlled by the ruling party with the ‘invisible hand’ of capitalist funding is presenting propaganda as facts, pushing it as truth among the Indian masses. This control of media, along with a high-functioning social media troll army has helped the BJP-RSS to tell their lies enough times, waiting for them to become truths.

Under the authority of s 192 of the Army Act 1950 GOI issued regulation sro19e reserving 33 percent of posts in my central civil service for army personnel . There is no mention of army in my 1949 service rules . Also there is no authority in s 192 of he Army act to reserve post in a central service for army personnel. The
